  • Understand the critical role that routines play in creating a supportive learning environment for multilingual learners
  • Explore a variety of mathematical and language routines that can be integrated into daily instruction
  • Discuss how awareness and integration of the WIDA Key Language Uses (KLUs) amplifies the development of number sense of multilingual learners
  • Identify ways in which the use of routines enhances both the language and the mathematics of a lesson

Carolyn Droll
Carolyn is the director of mathematics for Community consolidated school district 21, where she has worked in various roles over the past 26 years. In her current role, she supports math curriculum implementation in grades PK-8. During her career, she has supported teachers in their teaching and learning of mathematics across the country, working with various districts and at Michigan State University to train teachers in the use of CMP2 and CMP3.

Cristina Sanchez-Lopez
Cristina collaborates with educators nationally and internationally in optimizing learning environments for multilingual learners. She has taught at the elementary, middle school and university levels, and currently teaches graduate and undergraduates courses in multilingual education. Cristina is co-author on a number of books and articles on the education of multilingual learners with and without special education needs.
