John F. Hilliard

Co-Founder, President

 

John has devoted his professional career to bringing parity to the field of education, hence the origin of the name Paridad. His 25 years in education have spanned a range of roles from an award-winning bilingual teacher, to a university instructor providing teachers with strong research-based foundations in the field of language minority education, to his current position as a national professional developer recognized for his innovative approaches. John has focused on developing programs and approaches that effectively integrate technology for language and content learning. He is especially interested in protocols to support innovation in teaching and learning. Through Paridad, John is pushing himself and others to look beyond traditional confines of the classroom to expand the possibilities of personal and professional learning.

Common Core, Bilingual and English Language Learners: A Resource for Educators

A practical handbook for pre-service and practicing educators who are striving to make sense of the relationship of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and diverse learners.  The text is a compilation of 95 questions culled from practitioners in the field, with responses provided by 130 experts representing a range of implementation perspectives: John was invited to write about the Seal of Biliteracy, biliteracy and CCSS, and collaboration between ESL and content area teachers.

A popular book, in its second edition, serves as a quick reference for administrators, teachers, and leadership teams, a wellspring of ideas from 71 experts in the field for program development and improvement, and a framework for pre-service or in-service professional learning.   John was invited to write about planning for language development and the use of technology to support the academic and linguistic learning needs of ELLs.

One of the very first texts to speak of dual language programs as enriched education while providing step-by step instruction for establishing a dual language program.  John Hilliard contributed the Voices from the Field: Establishing a Regional Support Network on pages 186-187
